SIOUX FALLS, SD– The Sioux Falls Canaries announced today they have signed All-Star shortstop Tim Hutting, All-Star outfielder Brandon Sing and catcher Joe Dempsey for the 2010 season.
Hutting (6-0, 190-pounds) is coming off his best professional season in which he batted .300 with five homeruns and 33 RBI in 95 games with the Canaries. He was named to the 2009 American Association All-Star Game roster and finished the season with a .401 slugging percentage and .376 on-base percentage. He was an eighth round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants in 2003 and holds a career batting average of .259.
Sing (6-5, 210-pounds) is coming off a phenomenal season with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League. In 129 games, Sing hit .305 with 23 homeruns and 94 RBI. The 28-year-old outfielder was second in the league in homeruns and RBI.
In addition, he ranked second in the league in slugging percentage (.534) and extra base hits (58). He finished third in runs scored (96), doubles (34) and on-base percentage (.414). He participated in the Atlantic League All-Star Game and was one of four outfielders to be named to the Atlantic League All-Star Team at the end of the season.
Dempsey (6-2, 215-pounds) appeared in 19 games for the Canaries last season after coming over from Rockford of the Frontier League. While with the Birds, Dempsey batted .200 with one home run and four RBI. He finished the year with two doubles and a .300 slugging percentage.
“I am very excited to have all three players back,” stated Canaries manager Steve Shirley. “Joe did a good job for us last year in a part time roll and Tim’s a real pro who plays hard every night. Brandon is a big time run producer that should help our team every night. I couldn’t be more excited to have them on our roster,” added Shirley.
The Canaries open regular season play, at home, on Thursday, May 13th when they host the defending American Association champion Lincoln Saltdogs at 7:05 PM.
